What Perfume is and Why You Should Start Wearing It

If you have ever stopped to wonder why we as a culture do the things we do you’re not alone. Lately, (for whatever reason) I too was pondering on why we as a human race bother to wear perfume, but before I get into that let me share what perfume is scientifically and practically.
Defining What Perfume Is
Perfume, (in the simplest way that I can put it) is a molecule that’s light enough to float in the air. What creates the aroma are the cells in your nose recognizing the evaporating molecules and sending electrical messages to your brain. There are three components to a perfume: alcohol, water, and molecules that evaporate at room temperature (perfumes smell by evaporating).
Why You Should Start Wearing Perfume
Would you believe me if I told you that fragrance has nothing to do with the aroma but more to do with how it makes you feel? If you’ve ever wanted to take a trip down memory lane to be reminded of that one scent you smelled while running through the backyard of your family home, there’s a fragrance for that.
Perfume has the power to evoke memories, gratification, happiness, and more. Perfume is not just targeted at the rich. Of course, you have luxury fragrances, and niche fragrances, but you also have very simple two-note perfumes that are easy to wear and very versatile.
Makes A Great Impression
In our opinion, a fragrance gives that extra kick to the start of your day by enhancing your mood, especially if it’s a bright, fresh, citrusy fragrance. One of the main benefits of wearing perfume is its ability to reflect your mood and those around you.
Going on a date? Wear a sultry, intoxicating fruit scent. Going on a job interview and want to be stand out from the pack? Wear a soft, clean fragrance that wears close to the skin. No one scent fits everybody, perfumes offer many different kinds of smells for different moods and occasions. Sense of smell is one of the most important of the five senses. Did you know, you can simply get attracted to someone because of how they smell? Colognes and perfumes are rich in pheromones and help draw people closer to you.
Benefits to Wearing Perfume
Apart from smelling good, you should wear perfume for its subtle therapeutic benefits. Specifically, citrus fruit, floral and winter spice perfumes help to calm the mind and soothe the body helping to decrease stress.
We touched on it earlier, but perfume can also be an important trigger of a happy memory. Also, we tend to associate people with a particular scent. For example, many women like to wear their mother’s signature scent to conjure memories.
Next time you go on a vacation, get into the habit of getting a new perfume every time you travel and wear it. The different perfumes will remind you of each trip and help you relive those moments.
